When I create a new asset does the system automatically create a unique id number for it? In the tutorial it stated to include a unique identifier to enable searches for specific assets. In other systems there is an ID# and description, how does MaintainX handle this?
When an asset is created in MaintainX it will automatically be assigned a unique ID number. You can (in the organization settings) opt for MaintainX to also automatically generate a bar code when you create a new asset (see image below). It is good practice to ensure that you give each asset a unique name, so that when your technicians are creating a new work order and they are searching for the correct asset doesn’t end up with a list of 10 different forklifts each with the same name Forklift. In such a case it might be better to use Forklift 1, Forklift 2, Forklift 3 etc. And have their QR codes visible on the asset so that technician can just scan the QR code to automatically have the correct asset selected for the work order etc. The asset ID number is not visible when you are searching for the correct asset when creating a new work order. Hope this helps!
